Dr Abrar Akbar, Old graduate of FAH

Faculty of Animal Husbandry is one of the oldest faculty of UAF. This faculty has been playing its integral role to support and stabilize the livestock sector since its birth.

The FAH produced several role models who contributed a lot in the livestock sector. These personalities are known for their hard work. In this regard the first name that came into my mind is:

Dr Muhammad Sajjad Khan;

He is known as a father of Animal Genetics in Pakistan. He contributed several modern genetics method or techniques to improve the yield of our local breed. On his research, he has been awarded by many national and international awards. He had also worked as a Dean of FAH. Nowadays he is servicing as an acting VC of the Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Bahawalpur. It is honourable for us that an animal husbandry graduate is now a VC of Veterinary University.

Dr Muhammad Sarwar;

A big name in the field of poultry. He researched on poultry nutrition and management to improve the poultry sector in Pakistan. On his services, he has been awarded by Presidential award “Tamga-e-Imtiaz”.

Dr Mehru Nisa;

Like men women also contributed equally in this sector. Dr Mehru Nisa is a role model for girls who are going to take admission to the Faculty of Animal Husbandry. She promotes the poultry industry and works as poultry nutritionist. She has also awarded by Presidential award “Izaz-e-Fazeelat”.

Alike these, many worthy personalities contributed a lot to this faculty and livestock sector.

According to the annual report 2007-8, a total of 108 research papers are presented by FAH.

Similarly, the credit of formation of Pakistan’s second Animal Genetics laboratory goes to FAH.

Golden Nuggets;

Recently a few months ago Dr M. Fawad and Dr Shareef of FAH made new animal feed from the waste of orange pulp known as “Golden Nuggets”. The main benefit of this feed is that it is economical but seasonal.

International Seminars;

Last year 2019 FAH conducted an international seminar regarding poultry nutrition to introduce modern feed methods or techniques.

Similarly, a few days ago FAH organized international dairy seminar and expo regarding Milk and Meat Challenges. The main objective of this seminar is to educate students and scholars. So that they introduce the modern method and techniques of dairy farming at the farmer level.

Animal Husbandry Graduates:

Many animal husbandry graduates are working in local and multinational animal feed industries. In the private sector, FAH graduates have a unique status and respect. Many students built their livestock and poultry farms or hatcheries.

Conclusion;

Our 70 per cent economy is based on agriculture and in agriculture, more than 50 per cent share is of livestock. Without husbandry practices, it is very difficult to increase the production of livestock. A lot of homework is to be done. There are many challenges in front of us. To complete these challenges, we had to work together.
