SAVE THE CAMEL AND THE OWNER by Dr M. Younas Founder Camel Association of Pakistan

An episode reported on social media became viral on Friday June 14, 2024. Local media reported that a landlord namely Ghulam Rasool from Mund Jamrao village in Sanghar Distt allegedly chopped off a camel's leg after the animal trespassed into his field for grazing. The camel belonged to a poor peasant named Mr Soomar Behan, who was contacted by police after the episode went viral on social media.

This is a heinous act of the farmer who did it because of no fault of the owner. He could have reported to him for any loss if occurred because of his grazing, but cutting the animal’s leg is a stupid action. It cannot be tolerated. Its a cruelty inflicted on the animal and humanely unacceptable and intolerable action. The offender must be taken to task so that nobody can repeat any such action in future.

Information Minister from Mr Sharjeel Memon confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused for this amputation. GoS has also taken notice of this crime and five have gone under arrest.

The Camel Association of Pakistan, Faisalabad Chapter condemns this action which is extremely horrible and painful incident. We urge that poor man should be helped and the animal be provided veterinary treatment. The offender should go behind the bars and pay fine to the owner.

Treating animal in such a way is against the Islamic injunctions and humane rights of the animals. Govt should realize the pain inflicted on the camel of Prophet Saleh (AS) and the revenge of Allah came in the form of a great azab (punishment). For poor people the animals are their family members, and they earn their bread and butter from them. Such cruelty puts a great harm to their family and social life.

Laws of cruelty already exist they must be brought into action to punish such cruel and harsh people and stop any incident in the future.
