As our region of Punjab is temperate and in the summer season, the months of July and August

are hot and very humid. Locally known as the season of Barsaat. In this season if the

environment of farm or shed is not managed it may result in heat stress in cattle and cause

a drop in milk production. Some of the recommendations to manage this condition are given

below;

1. Provide proper cooling and ventilation system on the farm.

2. If its an open type herd of the herd then keep animals under a shady tree.

3. Let the cross-bred cattle graze under the shady trees. As it is observed that grazing

has a good impact during these days.

4. Free access to water and if animals are tied to the rope then take the animals to

water trough three times.

5. Drench mustard oil with buttermilk (lassi) in May before the “Barsaat” season.

Never drench oil in the humid season of Barsaat it is not good at that time.

6. Glucose can be orally drenched as an energy and calcium source.

7. In the season of Barsaat, there is the excess of rain ☔, Rain also affects the milk

production of cattle. As Sir Syed Dr Hassan Raza says that rain cause more problem

than cold weather.

8. Take the good care of nutrition by feeding, Wanda, mineral mixture and natural feed

additive as shared on DSUAF.

9. The water sprinklers can be installed and in the case of buffaloes, the pond must be made.

10. There should be less exposure to heat areas.
